June Client Spotlight: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County

Updated: Aug 6, 2018

Have you ever thought about being a mentor?

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County matches “at-risk” kids in our community with volunteer mentors. They may be being raised in a single-parent household, have a parent in the military, or a family member who is incarcerated or struggling with drug abuse issues. They may have experienced trauma, be at risk for academic failure, or have difficulty making friends.

It’s amazing how simply having a special adult in your life who is looking out for you, spending one-to-one time with you, and offering you guidance, can make a world of difference!

Unfortunately, many children in our community who need the extra support are never matched with a mentor.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has a waiting list of 250 children, and 70% of them are BOYS.

Often, when children don’t get the support and guidance they need, they look for attention in other ways, like acting out and making poor choices—including using alcohol or drugs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters’ programs are evidence-based, and their outcomes are impressive!

Children matched with mentors develop healthier relationships, are less likely to abuse alcohol and drugs, are less likely to skip school, and create higher goals for their future.

Each “match” costs about $1,200 a year, due to the in-depth screening, training, and on-going support Big Brothers Big Sisters provides.

It really takes a village—including people like you to volunteer or make a donation to support their programs.
